Game vs. UPJ
A great win for us, although it is not a PSAC win it is a regional win…. It also is a win at home on a VERY long week for us.
SOOO I’m tired and want to summarize quickly:
We had a great game and played good soccer, Arielle had a goal in the first two minutes of the game which was placed far post and sailed over the keepers head. With just over 11 minutes left in the first half Melinda was able to finish a great play which started with Brittany Cranmer in the midfield. Brittany played the ball out to Jen Williams on the right midfield who cut inside and beat the GK with an amazing service/shot. Melinda was able to then finish the ball into the back of the net putting Haven up 2-0 at half. Once again, as in the Edinboro game, 2-0 is NOT a safe score…. We were playing great but UPJ was still in it.
In the second half UPJ definitely showed they weren’t going away, their GK had some good saves and their midfielders were putting some major pressure on our team. UPJ looked like an entirely different team and LHU was still playing some great soccer, with just 10 seconds left in regulation and after NUMEROUS 1 on 1 attempts and amazing runs Melinda Dodson came up with her second goal of the night heading the ball into the back of the net after a UPJ defender was able to save her initial shot. Although we were already up by 2 Melinda’s goal was a sigh of relief and definitely got the “monkey off her back” as coach Davis would say.
Great way to start the first of three home games… this week is going to be taxing on our players and with some injuries and bruises our practices and rehab schedule will play a vital role in how we do the next two games…. With that aside our soccer has gotten better and I can not be more excited about where Haven Soccer is going, the definition of what we stand for and the quality of the soccer that we have proven that we can play.
Check back Wednesday night or Thursday morning for a recap of the Clarion game which will be played Wednesday at 6pm.
